Dedicating Your Children to God
As I observe all that is going on in the world around me, I am at peace in knowing that God is and will always take care of all of my children. Each one of my children have been dedicated to God. Dedicating your children to God means that as a Christian parent, you are making the decision to commit to raising your children to follow God’s Biblical principles and that you trust the plan that He has for their lives. Each one of our children is a gift from God.
Many churches offer opportunities for parents to dedicate their children to God in front of the congregation. I know a child who was dedicated to God by a pastor in their own home with family members present. I personally think that it doesn’t matter which route you choose in dedicating your children to God as long as you do it. The Bible shares how Jesus was dedicated to God by his parents, Mary and Joseph. This story is found in the book of Luke chapter 2. Another story of a child being dedicated to God is when Hannah dedicated her son, Samuel, to the Lord in first Samuel chapter 1 in the old testament. Both of these stories serve as a model for us on how important dedicating our children to God is.
After your children have been dedicated to God, it’s important that you are intentional in the ways you are raising your children. It’s crucial that your children are learning Biblical principles in a way that they can understand. They need to learn about salvation and wisdom to help them make good decisions as they walk toward fulfilling their purpose in life.
I believe it’s also important to remind our children each day that they are a child of God and that they have a purpose. Every morning I have my children read from their “Good Behavior Goals and Expectations Chart” before they start their school day or our activities for the day. The first line of the chart says “I am a child of God who was created to behave in good ways and to do great things.” Kids benefit from positive reminders. Also if my children get really upset about a situation I remind them they are a child of God and that they have the power to use self control to control their emotions. And this helps to calm them down. This chart can be found on the shop page of this website if you would like to use it each day with your kids.
Thankfully God has provided us with the Bible, which should be our number 1 tool when we are guiding our children. The Free Resources page and Shop page on this website have many kid-friendly resources available to help you with raising your children to follow God and reach their full potential. I hope you are encouraged to dedicate your children to the Lord. Always remember that the Lord is with you every step of the way!
